Hi Paul -
I was directed to your BLOG by Elene and Umberto (mutual friends). I've been fencing at Woodstock for about 10 years now.
Anyway - I feel your pain. I used to work at the NY Renn Faire many years ago (about 18 of them) and even then they suffered from the same drab, over-done, non-historical robin hood story. Ah well... I've been back a few times, but I rarely have the desire. It's usually the result of a friend being in town and wanting to go because he/she hasn't been before.
On the up-side - I hear the Sterling Renn Fair upstate near Oswego (not to be confused with Sterling Forest) is supposed to be amazing. I think I may finally check it out this coming summer. http://sterlingfestival.com/ I've heard nothing but good things about it from many a seasoned Rennaisance goer (I see alot of them as I run a Live Action RPG).

Take care,

John

The two smaller Ren Faires I went to in Connecticut last summer were a refreshing change. Worth the trip in my opinion just to see different acts for once...
