Harriet McDougal couldn’t have picked a better author to finish than Brandon Sanderson.

I completely agree. Jordan was incredible for many reasons, but chief among these was his eye for detail and his intricate weaving of the story (and foreshadowing, apparently, but I can't speak to that yet). I think Sanderson definitely has these traits, perhaps more than any other current fantasy author. That is what will make his work on the series remain in the spirit of Jordan. Plus, he's very obviously a fan of Wheel of Time himself and wants to do justice to the series. (This was very clear in the chance I had to see him speak about Jordan's work and picking up where he left off.) That is simply motivation that can't be bought any other way.

Sounds like we have similar taste in books.
Have you read the Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson?
Highly recommended... :)

Also the Chronicals of Amber by Roger Zelazney.

Hi Paul -
I was directed to your BLOG by Elene and Umberto (mutual friends). I've been fencing at Woodstock for about 10 years now.
Anyway - I feel your pain. I used to work at the NY Renn Faire many years ago (about 18 of them) and even then they suffered from the same drab, over-done, non-historical robin hood story. Ah well... I've been back a few times, but I rarely have the desire. It's usually the result of a friend being in town and wanting to go because he/she hasn't been before.
On the up-side - I hear the Sterling Renn Fair upstate near Oswego (not to be confused with Sterling Forest) is supposed to be amazing. I think I may finally check it out this coming summer. http://sterlingfestival.com/ I've heard nothing but good things about it from many a seasoned Rennaisance goer (I see alot of them as I run a Live Action RPG).

Take care,

John

I have to agree. The series does end rather abruptly. This seems to be a common issue with Stackpoles novels. He builds suspense, gets your blood pumping and the pages turning, then just stops.
