Updates again

Okay, I haven’t updated in forever. Where do I start:

Wedding plans going well thanks to Diana. We have a place, a DJ, a florist, a photographer, and a caterer. Diana already has her dress. All we have left to do is

  • Pick out songs with the DJ (any suggestions?)
  • Pick out some of the food from the caterer (including the cake)
  • Get the rings
  • I need a Tuxedo
  • Order the invitations
  • Get a calligrapher to do the invitations
  • Send out the invitations
  • And thats pretty much it (other then a few minor things)

I just finished Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke. The story is about an alternate reality where magic and faries are (or were) real and their existance was never doubted. It takes place in early 19th century England, a time which hasn’t seen any magicians for well over a hundred years, until now. The story centers on the first new practical magician, Mr. Gilbert Norrell, and later on his headstrong apprentice Jonathan Strange. The two characters have a love/hate working relationship with each other over their opinions of “English Magic”, and eventually go their seperate ways, battling it out in print, rather then with spells.

The book starts slow, gets better as it goes along, but does keep your interest. It is not as good in my opinion as the hype I’ve heard (online and from a friend). Its worth reading, but I would recommend borrowing it, rather then buying it (at least in hardcover).

My friends and I picked up and started playing World of Warcraft yesterday. There have been good and bad things about the game.

The good:

  1. All characters are very well balanced (seemingly), and you can have fun in a group or solo with any of them.
  2. The environments and character models are amazingly well done.
  3. The designers obviously have a great sense of humor. There are countless examples of this, but the emotes are one of the best. For example, each race/gender combination has a different dance. Those I know of so far are:
    • Undead males dance like they are a heavy metal rocker (with the air guitars and everything).
    • The human women do the macarena.
    • The orc males do an M.C. Hammer dance (all they need is the parachute pants).
    • The troll males do “Kung Fu Fighting”.
    • The night elf males do Michael Jackson’s Billy Jean
    • The night elf females do some sort of stripper dance it looks like. All they need is a pole.

There are more, and there is a video I have to post that shows most of them (to music).

  4. I have no feel of being in a treadmill like other MMORPGs so far. The quests really help with that.

The bad and the ugly:

  1. Some of the time you cannot even login to the game
  2. When you do log in, you are unable to see the character list about
half (or more) of the time
  3. Once in, you often lag for a minute or more when trying to summon a
creature, loot an item, or accept/complete a quest
  4. If you do not lag, often you get disconnected and sent back to the
    character select screen
  5. In the rare times that there is no lag, you don’t get disconnected,
the servers aren’t down, and you can actually play… well sure the
    game is great.

I’ll post more soon.

Put the kiddies out of the room and read this lovely view of our friends south of the mason-dixie line here. I couldn’t have said it better myself!

All Hallow’s Eve

Ah, Halloween. Never been a huge holiday for me, but this year should be interesting. Diana and I are going on Sunday to Haunted Huguenot Street, where they combine ghost stories about, and histories of the 300+ year stone houses in New Paltz. We tried to go today, but they were all booked up for the tours. Would have been a perfect day for it today though, especially there. The overcast, dark gloomy look fit very well in with the old houses and graveyard.

Tomorrow will also be interesting when we see all the trick or treaters here at our complex. Supposedly, we get a lot of them at our complex with all the kids here. Hope we have enough candy. We’ll see.

Happy Holloween!

New Photo Gallery

I got my photo gallery up (or at least some of it). Nothing amazingly interesting so far, but I’ll be uploading more pictures as the days go on, ad well as taking more in the coming days. The link to the gallery is in the right hand column.

Damn spam…

I have the blog setup one day, just over 24 hours, and now I’m getting spammed on my comments. I’ll be cleaning out all the spam comments, but will then be doing a few spam prevention techniques (as if it weren’t bad enough via e-mail). If you don’t see a post come up automatically, don’t worry about it, it will come up eventually.

Bush Relatives for Kerry!

This is interesting (though probably irrelevant): Bush Relatives for Kerry

Now that I have this setup

Hi all, now that I have this setup, I’m probably going to be adding, changing a LOT in the next few days with it, and hopefully updating more on a regular basis. I’m going to get a photo album setup mostly which should be cool. Keep checking it out.

Thanks

Thanks to Bruce for letting me know about WordPress. I will have to mess around with it, but at least my color scheme got the “Bruce doesn’t think it looks like ass” seal of approval
